QURBAN PACKAGES 2023 / 1444H

Celebrating Piety & Sacrifice

Qurban meat will be distributed to the poor, orphans and disabled.

WHAT IS QURBAN?

The purpose of offering the qurban is to attain nearness to Allah (swt). The act of Qurbani encompasses the very essence of Islam; submission to the will of Allah (swt) and the willingness to sacrifice whatever is asked of us to achieve closeness to Him, just as Prophet Ibrahim (as) demonstrated so many centuries earlier.

WHEN IS QURBAN PERFORMED?

Qurban is performed during the Haj season which is on the 10, 11, 12 and 13 of Zulhijjah. The first slaughter can be performed after Solat Eiduladha and the last slaughter needs to be performed before Maghrib of the last Tashrik day (13 Zulhijjah). For Singapore this year, 10 Zulhijjah. For other time zones, it may fall on 1 day earlier or later.

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR THE ANIMAL?

The sacrificial animal should be the best one, old enough, and without any defect. Rasulullah (PBUH) says:

“Four types of animals are unlawful to be sacrificed: 1. Having defective eyes; 2. Having illness; 3. Limping; and 4. Skinny with no fats.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Another Hadith reported:

“Do not slaughter but a Musinnah. If it is too hard for you (to get it), then slaughter a Jadza’ah (one year of age or more) from among the sheep.” (HR Muslim).

  • When will I get my Certificate of Qurban and photos?
  • It will only be ready around one month after Qurban.

  • Must I Aqiqah 2 goats for a son?
  • It is a Sunnah of our Prophet Sollallahu 'alaihi wasallam to Aqiqah 2 goats for a son. However, if you wish to Aqiqah 1 goat first and another 1 at another time, this is also possible.

  • My child is grown up already. Can I still do Aqiqah for him/her?
  • Aqiqah can be done for the child even if it is after many years.

Do also refer to Asatizah who are proficient in Fiqh.

  • Can I put more than one name for Qurban?
  • Yes, you can.

Ibn al Qoyyim said in Zaadul Ma’ad:

“Among the Sunnah of Rasulullah (pbuh) is that the Qurban of a goat can be for a person and his family even though they are in great numbers” as mentioned by a hadith by Atha ibn Yasar from Abu Ayyub Al-Anshari.

  • Can I do Qurban on behalf of someone who has passed on?
  • Yes, you can.

Many scholars from the Hanafi, Maliki and Hambali sects allow it. In accordance with what the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) did, He sacrificed two goats, the first for himself and the second for His people who have not performed Qurban.

The sect of al-Shafi'i does not allow it.

  • Is the animal Cow or Bull for Qurban India? What is the difference?
  • For Qurban in India, it will be Bull.

Cow is female and has given birth to at least one or two calves.

Bull is male used for breeding purposes.

  • When must I proclaim the intention for the Ibadah Qurban? What is the statement for me to proclaim?
  • When you are registering and making payment for your Ibadah Qurban, this is considered as an act of intent to perform the Ibadah Qurban. This is because proclaiming the intention is not one of the conditions for Qurban. However, if you still wish to do the proclamation, you can do this at any time before the registration by saying, “I am doing this Ibadah Qurban because of Allah Ta’ala.”

  • Will my Ibadah Qurban be nullified if I cut my hair, or hair on any part of my body, or fingernails after I have set the intention to perform the Ibadah Qurban? When can I do so?
  • No, your Ibadah Qurban will not be nullified.

For those who have set their intention to perform their Ibadah Qurban, it is a  Sunnah upon them not to cut hair, or hair on any part of my body, or fingernails until their Ibadah Qurban is carried out.

According to the Islamic scholars, this prohibition is a Sunnah and not Wajib. This means that if it is observed, the Ibadah Qurban will be more complete. However, if it is not observed, the Ibadah Qurban is still valid.
